Since the 1950s, the number of tourists travelling internationally has increased 25 fold, from 25 million to almost 600 million. According to the World Tourism Organisation, by the year 2015 there will be 1.3 billion people globetrotting, spending nearly 2 trillion US dollars (Tourism 2020 Vision: A New Forecast, WTO, 1997).
