Across the generations. Habib Samim
In the first week of September 2002 Afghan men and women from all walks of life in Kabul reflected on the events of the past year. They spoke of their shock at the attack on the World Trade Center, the brutality of the Taliban regime, their delight at its defeat and happiness at being able to return to a more stable and normal life.
Ten Afghanis - a nurse, doctor, writer, mother, grandfather, lab technician, office worker, shopkeeper, worker and teacher - look at the changes that have taken place. Nearly all recognise how badly women were treated under the Taliban. They look ahead to building an independent country, but say they will need help for some time to come.
The Afghan voices belong to Razia, Murza Hussein, Abdul Qadar Amami Ghuri, Mostur Yaoudi, Mohammed Aziz Abdul Aziz, Faiz Mohammed Faizi, Najiba, Zabiullah, Pahenda Mohammed and Saber Raweenbakh.
