Ethiopian Girl Abducted. WOMANKIND

This film shows what happens when young Ethiopian girls are abducted, raped and forced into marriage. It includes a dramatisation by villagers in Billisito, Eastern Shoa Region of Ethiopia, and is based on their own experiences of marriage by abduction. Click on the boxes to follow their story.

WOMANKIND supports ICEDA's work in villages just outside Addis Ababa. Here, half the girls are forced into marriage through abduction at the average age of 14. They are raped and often divorced within a year. The film was made by ICEDA and GEM TV, a local film making project, and shown in different regions to challenge the practice.
