The event is expected to draw 75,000 people bringing together people's movements, trade unionists, anti-war campaigners, NGOs, artists and many more. They will debate and discuss a range of issues at 1200 events organised at the NESCO grounds in Goregaon outside Mumbai, India.

The World Social Forum (WSF) was first organised in Brazil in 2001 as a counterpoint to the Davos World Economic Forum. This is the first time the annual event has been held outside Brazil. It has led to the mass mobilisation of grassroots and Dalit organisations in India.
