Professor Carl Wunsch

One of the scientists interviewed during the infamous Channel 4 "Great Global Warming Swindle" was Professor Carl Wunsch, professor of physical oceanography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After the programme had been screened, he said he had been "completely misrepresented" by the programme, and "totally misled" on its content. He added that he is considering making a formal complaint. "The movie," he added, "was terrible propaganda..". More on this

And mysteriously, Tim Ball, retired professor at the University of Winnipeg's department of geography, has magically turned into "Professor Tim Ball, University of Winnipeg, Department of Climatology," reports Kevin Grandia of deSmogBlog. Err... what Department of Climatology? And "In one broad brush stroke, the Swindle film brushes off the following groups who have stated that global warming is a serious problem and we humans are to blame: the National Academies of Science (or their respective equivalent) of China, France, United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, United States, Japan, Italy and and Germany; the UK's Royal Society; the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change; NASA; and NOAA, to name just a few. Karl Wunsch again: "The Great Global Warming Swindle, was 'grossly distorted' and 'as close to pure propaganda as anything since World War Two.'"

For those of a scientific bent, Stoat presents the straightforward explanation for the apparent lag between warming and atmospheric CO2. Nothing new here. It's just that it somehow failed to be mentioned in The Swindle.

Let us hope that The Swindle was the last gasp of the dwindling band of 'pop-up' climate change deniers. It's all so last century, as they say. Meanwhile we, at OneClimate.net just want to get on with the serious business of helping to find solutions to what the IPCC has warned us about in no uncertain terms: climate change aggravated by burning fossil fuels.
