Anybody know which is the cheapest and most eco friendly hybrid car on the market at the moment? I want to drive up to Scotland in September, but don't want to buy an old fashioned petrol fuelled automobile. What to do?

Cheapest eco-car?
I don't want to buy an old fashioned fuel guzzling automobile. What to do?

Hybrids aren't all they're cracked up to be. I gather that most modern small diesel cars get better fuel consumption than the best hybrids. They're also a lot cheaper. I have a small diesel which I discussed in Slow is smart a while back. Its average fuel consumption is around 63-65mpg/3.6 litres per 100 kilometres and its CO2 emissions are 116g/km. This makes road tax just £35 per year. first of all, its not a hybrid. that is because they are not very good on fuel, and the small amount of energy they save is outweighed by the enourmous amounts of energy used to manufacture them.
the most environmentally freindly car is infact the Jeep Wrangler, and that is because its made from such a large amount of recycled material and uses little energy to run and make it. i would reccomend a small diesel car. If you want fuel economy, then teh VW Polo blue motion is the best choice, which averages 72mpg! (according to VW) |
Thank you so much for this answer! I've been wondering this myself for some time and am getting closer to buying a car now -- so this is great to know!
