The world stands on the cusp of disaster, but positive action could transform the future. Practical Action works alongside poor people to help them use technology to improve their lives for today and for generations to come. Practical Action employee Sharon Looremeta will be speaking on stage at the Live Earth concert in

London. She focuses on helping her people, the Maasai in Africa, and other communities in

Kenya’s rift valley.

Many communities in the developing world depend on farming or fishing so that even slight changes in the weather affect their lives. Poor people living in low-lying coastal areas prone to flooding have little protection when disaster strikes. Erratic weather patterns are causing increasing severe droughts in sub-Saharan

Africa. The Maasai live in an area which has in the past been without rain for three years. Climate change is leading to increased drought, and women are having to travel further each day in search of water. In Magadi Practical Action has helped to develop panniers to make more efficient use of donkey transport.Sharon Looremeta will be taking the stage around 9.15 pm.
