It's true, you can get CO2-free power from aluminium waste (have a look at our YouTube video). This means you can use the power from waste aluminium packaging that you send away for recycling to offset your electricity bill, or keep it stored for the time when you have a blackout. The system is non-toxic and produces a waste that is of value to the aluminium producers. There are no dangerous chemicals or high pressures in the system and it provides steady reliable power for a long time. The can in the video has enough energy to light a 60W lamp for 1hr and it's free. I collected about a kilogram of waste aluminium from food packaging in 4 days and this has about 4000Wh of energy. If you switch to low energy usage in the home this can be a significant source of energy.
In the third world such a system can provide the basics for a better life. Light, pumped water and some refrigeration is easy to provide using the piles of scrap aluminium available. The waste product can be sold back to the aluminium companies because it is a high purity precursor to the final stage of aluminium production.
In addition to our home powerpack unit we are also working on a 6 pack version for camping and other portable power applications.
