I've been recycling at the university I attend. People say that they want to help but do not. I'm wondering if there is something that helps you be motivated about recycling? How can I inspire others to act?

An artist, Anne Cohen, has made an usual exhibit out of junk mail. Since January, she has placed all her junk mail on a spike outside her front door. It is now more than 5ft high. Now that's inspiring! See: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=487483&in_page_id=1770
On a personal scale, I always think that showing people where the recycled stuff goes, what it gets made into etc helps. I've convinced people to recycle plastic from having a backpack made from recycled drinks bottles, which is nice! :)
And there's the whole "deposit" thing - some products offer a little bit of money back if you return the bottle/jar, perhaps convincing local businesses to stock these could help? :S
Or writing to the local authority and asking them to charge for normal waste disposal, but to offer free recycling facilities. :) I don't know how sensible that is though...
I hope this helps - if not, ignore me :P check out nesta.org.uk £1m environmental prize fund! ... |

Talking .... talking and more talking. They need to know if they see you that you are going to talk about it. But you have to watch yourself to do what you talk about with no exaptions. Don't do what I did for a short time, I caught myself getting offensive if people didn't understand or didn't do what I told them to do with their waste. So, keep talking and living it. At least this works for me. One funny story that happend to me was in Stockholm Sweden, I dropped something on the side of the road in down town Stockholm and someone came after me and told me showing me what I dropped " Sir, you lost something". That worked. Since then I haven't dropped anything anywhere.
