One year before pivotal elections in a country that emits 25% of all greenhouse gases (and less than a month before landmark UNFCCC discussions get to defining details of a Post Kyoto World in Bali) on November 3rd, 2007, Americans are waking up to demand real leadership on global warming. From coast to coast, STEP IT UP events are staged in communities & invite politicians to join in. A roll call of sorts is being assembled to see who accepted the challenge to help define and tackle the global issue of our time. Helping the cause: AVAAZ.ORG. Avaaz has asked members to write letters that will be hand delivered to Congressional offices on Nov 5.

Okay, I made that up by combining the two slogans that converge on the US Capital from distinct sources:Step it up 07 is asking Americans to demand real leadership on global warming from elected officials that have been silent for too long. Leading the pack, Mayors of hundreds of US cities. The Pacific NW has emerged as the vanguard. Green Seattle Day, as an example, showcases the new Office of Sustainability and Environment. These coast to coast activities are creating a broad cross-sectional consensus of friends and neighbours in honest and open conversation.
While AVAAZ.ORG (an independent, not-for-profit global campaigning organization that works to ensure that the views and values of the world's people inform global decision-making) is harnessing activists to converge in Washington to hand-deliver messages from around the world about the climate crisis to their members of Congress on climate policy.
It`s a powerful, new social change approach that marries technology with a grass roots activism; enabling many on the margins to experience the power of unity in action.
