Lead acid batteries are very popularly used in automobiles. If we can find solution to charge such batteries in say 1 or 2 minutes to its full capacity- we can have huge business opportunity and have results in short term- without waiting for Fuel cell or otehr new technologies.
I am seriously looking for methods to charge lead acid batteries in say 1 or 2 or evn 3 minutes. Take for instance we top up our cars or 2 wheelrs- so atht we can tarvel lomng distances. Topping up a vehicle in a short time - is teh key consideration. We should open up energy topping up of batteries. Such energy topping up stations can be opened in Petrol stations. I am fully aware it is capital intensive, expensive, bulky etc- but all petrol stations around the world must have such energy top up systems- so that electric vehilces can just drive in , get their nbattery topped up- in terms of energy in say 2 to 3 minutes and keep driving say 100 kms- before next top up / energy charge up.
<> This needs atetntion of battery manufacturers to come up with solutions from Battery side. For exampel how can we use say 300 amps to charge a 26Ah battery- to be charged in minutes? Rest of the devlopment in automobile sector is simple.

As I understand it, lead-acid batteries have reached a development plateau and are unlikely to ever be able to be 'crash charged' in a few minutes. In any case, a typical car battery is only rated at 40amp-hours or so. What you're looking at is the very large battery assemblies needed for electric cars to be rapidly charged. If there was a way to do this, the manufacturers would have done it because there would be a huge market for such batteries.
I believe there are other battery types where charging rates could be altered by replacing electrolytes or even electrodes but I think these are still in devlopment. Lead-acid batteries are, of course, hopelessly heavy which is what makes fuel cells the better way to go. And with fuel cells, refuelling would be easy and quick.
The big issue remains: where is the energy for all these transport vehicles going to come from ultimately? |


Comments made by Mr Bry are well received. I am aware that Fuel cells are being talked about for nearly 15 years and even today It seems to e still a few years away. I am certainly looking for about 100 V battery with a rating of about 2000 Ahr for a small car. It can be still lower capacity for 2 wheelers etc. Fine am not an expert on batteries. It is also true that lead acid batteries are heavy. In fact if changing electrolyte can help- we should certainly look at such options. Demand will ceratinly be huge - if a solution can be found - URGENTLY. But we need a solution at any cost soon.
