Are there humane ways to stabilise population growth so that humans can be sustained on this planet -
without adding to greenhouse emissions
without exhausting our resources of food and water
without wrecking the environment
without wiping out other life - animals and plants
?
Why cant people be helped to have sustainable-size families, and have assurances that their children can survive and that they will not starve in their own old age?

That is sort of the wrong question. Population will increase about by about 50% in 42 years, but resource consumption will be up like 800%, if we follow business as usual. Population, at least, looks like it will level off. We need to figure out how to decarbonize our economies first. However, there are also lots of ways to humanely reduce the speed of population growth, particularly by fighting for mandatory primary school education and for the rights and status of women.
