Second Life avatar at the virtual Bali conference
I used to think Second Life was for nerds and people who should get a life. But I grudgingly joined the many avatars (each representing a real person) for some of the live question & answer sessions direct from the UN climate conference in Bali. I couldn't believe it! Not only could I see and hear discussions as they were happening, but I could actually ask my own questions. And then there was US Senator Ed Markey who made history by delivering his conference speech virtually on OneClimate's Second Life island, chalking up a big 'first' for OneWorld.net and its OneClimate offshoot. So far as I know, this sort of thing had never been attempted before and Markey's speech really hit the global headlines.
If you don't believe this technology works and is utterly worthwhile, this video (click below) should convince you. If you know about Second Life, watch the video anyway. It's only 8 minutes and it may open your eyes, as it did mine, to the incredible potential for global 'conversations' with real people without any travel at all. And yes, virtual flying really is fun and guilt-free!
