The Pickens Plan - will it work?

T Boone Pickens was not a name i was familiar with before traveling to the states this summer. But whilst here he hasnt been out of the headlines. To those outside of the us, let me just fill you in a little, Mr Pickens is a mega rich Texan oil barron. On June 2008 he laid out his plans to cut American dependancy on foreign oil and increase the amount of energy the states obtain from renewable sources namely wind power to 22%. Mr Pickens or Boone as everyone seems to call him spent $58 million on his ad campaign and even has his own wikipedia entry entitled  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickens_Plan

So with the saved 22% in natural gas will then be used to power American autombiles, reducing dependancy and cutting emmisions.

So i just wondered what other poeple thought and if poeple thinks its a good thing in the fight for global climate change, or is it just a superficial mask for the problem.
