The Texas billionaire lays out his plans!

T Boone Pickens was not a name i was familiar with before traveling to the states this summer. But whilst here he hasnt been out of the headlines. To those outside of the us, let me just fill you in a little, Mr Pickens is a mega rich Texan oil barron. On June 2008 he laid out his plans to cut American dependancy on foreign oil and increase the amount of energy the states obtain from renewable sources namely wind power to 22%. Mr Pickens or Boone as everyone seems to call him spent $58 million on his ad campaign and even has his own wikipedia entry entitled http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickens_Plan
So with the saved 22% in natural gas will then be used to power American autombiles, reducing dependancy and cutting emmision.
So my question is, will this actually work to help reduce emmisions or is it just simply a mask for the problem, thoughts please. Comments
but i see know i fail to turely annser ur question, i think that it wii not so much cut down on emmisions but save the americans money. there is a good point though ,if they make there own fuel/energy there is not travle emmisions
hi silvie, your lucky to go to the US. i also live outside the country but i think that there contributions of greenhouse gas threw cars is terrible and therefore belive this is a great idea. Go mr pickens! |
Thanks for posting this - very interesting.
Sorry I can't shed any light on whether it will work. I would need to know more about US politics, how much influence the oil and automotive industries are likely to have on the next federal administration, how many other oil magnates will see their future in diversified energy etc.
Perhaps you've stimulated me to find out more.
