One important step forward as the UK's climate change minister, Ed Miliband, announces support for carbon capture and storage. From now on, he pledged, no new coal-fired power stations will be built in the UK unless they capture their emissions using carbon capture and storage. Full transcript of the statement here.

This is excellent news for everyone who has been campaigning against dirty coal. But does CCS represent more of a hope than a present reality?
