OneClimate is an initiative of OneWorld UK, which is a not-for-profit organisation.

It is a member of the OneWorld Network, which is governed by the trustees of the OneWorld International Foundation (OWIF), a registered charity (no.1095287). The Network has 12 autonomous centres around the world, of which OneWorld UK is the newest, incorporated on 1 April 2005.

Each OneWorld centre is 'a centre of energy' with its own purpose and focus, though falling within the scope of the international trustees' guiding principles. At OneWorld UK, our purpose is to pioneer internet and mobile phone applications which the world's poorest people can use to improve their life chances, and which help people in richer countries to understand global problems and do something about them.

Our OneClimate Initiative, as its name implies, focuses on tackling climate change. The OneWorld UK team and board agree that there is no global problem more urgent and all-encompassing - not even poverty, since poverty will be immeasurably worsened by the devastation that climate change will wreak. We are aware that this ruinous and unjust process has already begun, hitting hardest the people living in impoverished communities in the global south, even though these are the people who have done least to trigger climate change.

And we are can also - cautiously, on good days - move beyond anguish to hope. We can see that climate change could act as a wake-up call, providing humankind with a last chance to act together to bring about a fair and sustainable world. But this will only come about if we are willing to stop the denial and face up to the realities that every individual, community and government will have to take decisive and urgent steps to curb greenhouse gas emissions, and to stop wasteful consumption and pollution. Nothing short of that will do.

What the OneWorld UK team has created for OneClimate therefore is a series of innovative spaces and tools to enable you to share your experiences, knowledge, insights, questions and answers about climate change. We hope it will connect you not only to information but to kindred spirits. And do please check our Terms of Use in order to make the best and most appropriate use of OneClimate.net.

For the content on OneClimate will only be as rich and useful as you make it. We build the digital platforms and tools: the content – almost all of it – is yours.

And we couldn’t have built these platforms and tools without the generosity of the many people who have believed in the importance of this work. There is still a lot more to do, especially for Mozilla and Safari browsers - and we want to add more and more features to make the site more and more useful to everyone.

So we'd really appreciate your continuing help, through the content you post, the feedback you give us, and - vitally - through your donations and sponsorship.

Special thanks are due to the organisations that have already given us financial help: the Guerrand-Hermes Foundation for Peace, Cisco Systems, Chinnor Friends of the Earth, and the boards of two other trusts who wish to remain anonymous.

We would also like to thank warmly the numerous individuals who gave us funds and/or huge amounts of pro bono energy - including Hariyanti Vittachi; the Lady Armstrong; Flavia Geronazzo Alman and Sabine Gisela Reiff; Lalia and Hamilton Helmer; Olly Willans, Tom Dyson and David Harris of Torchbox Design; Carol Satyamurti; Chris Robertson; Michael Yates; Judy Ugonna; Nick Durrant; Graham Freer; Rik Able; and TechSoup's Susan Tenby.

We could not have done it without you all.
