OneClimate Island is another kind of solution space in the virtual world Second Life. It's a place you can travel to carbon free to meet other people working on solutions to climate change. It'll be under construction for the next few months, with areas being built collaboratively with help from expert organisations.
For a first glimpse of what the island is looking like as building work begins, click twice on the play button:
The main parts of the island are:
- The Eco-Village, with exhibitions and simulations of low-carbon living
- The Transport Cafe - how to get around with the lowest emissions
- Renewable Energy - the facts and the debate on alternatives to fossil-fuel power stations
- Climate Justice, with stark reminders of how climate chaos is already impacting the poorest communities
- On Stage, for concerts, meetings and movies
- Climate Science - catch up with the latest facts and models.
If you've got the Second Life software, you can visit the island by clicking here. What's Second Life? Find out here.
If you're an SL expert, we'd love to hear from you if you'd like to volunteer your time and expertise to help in the building and scripting work. Please contact OneClimateCoordinator Sol inworld or email oneclimate@oneworld.net.
