Plane Stupid

Plane Stupid is a network of groups taking action against airport expansion and aviation's climate impact.

The network came together in 2005, when a group of activists decide to disrupt an international aviation conference, held in a central London hotel. Despite heavy security, Plane Stupid activists managed to enter the conference, releasing helium balloons with rape alarms up to the ceiling during the key note speech by a senior British Airways executive. That evening, over 200 activists and local residents met on Tower Bridge, where the conference dinner was taking place, heckling executives as they entered.

Plane Stupid has no heirachy or central leadership, but is instead made up of small 'affinity groups' who organise themselves. Inspired by networks like Earth First! and the mid-90s anti-roads protests, our members take direct action against one of the root causes of climate change.

Plane Stupid is funded primarily by donations from individuals and organisations. We take no money from businesses who would profit from a decrease in flying, or political organisations. Members of Plane Stupid may be affiliated to political parties, but Plane Stupid itself is fiercely non-partisan.

Plane Stupid welcomes actions in its name, provided they are non-violent and accountable and help further the struggle against airport expansion and greenhouse gas emissions from aviation.
